Wang,Qingkai: Liu,Xiaobo’s winning of the 2010 Nobel Peace Prize is beneficial to political reform in China
王庆凯(Wang,Qingkai)
The 2010 Nobel Peace Prize was granted to famous dissident, main drafter of “Charter 08”, and now imprisoned Mr. Liu,Xiaobo, the decision of the Nobel Peace Prize Nomination Committee was for democracy, freedom, and human rights. The Chinese government ignores pressure from the international society, and didn’t allow Mr. Liu,Xiaobo to attend the awarding ceremony of Nobel Peace Prize. They only placed an empty chair for Liu,Xiaobao which was the second time in history. The first was grated to famous anti-fascist and peace fighter, German Jewish Osietzky in 1936.
The nomination committee expressed that the empty chair didn’t mean to demonstrate against China, but to transmit a message to China, which was China should push for economic and political reform at the same time. They hope the Chinese government can improve human rights conditions while making economic improvement; Thus to facilitate Chinese society to develop towards democracy, freedom, human rights and rule of law; truly push the political reform in China.
