Zhao Yang: Corruption is a Certain Production of One-party Dictatorship

Anti-corruption has been promoted since the time of Xiaoping Deng, to Zemin Jiang and finally to Jintao Hu. The corruption is still rampant in China. The main reason is a lack of modeling in the officials at higher position that leads to same corruption among lower officials. “Absolute power gives birth to absolute corruption”. One-party dictatorship place no effective balance on the power, which in turn results in increasingly serious abuse of power related with corruption.
Democratic policy can never realize if the one-party dictatorship can’t be eliminated. The press freedom under this is not capable of functioning as supervision over corruption and embezzlements. However, the Chinese leaders never dare to face the challenge of opening press freedom. It’s clear that maintaining political power in hand of the party is the priority of CCP leaders. In this environment, real political reform can’t truly exist and be fulfilled.
The corruption in China is not the kind commonly seen. It’s a systematical corruption from the lowest level of government to the highest officials. Why it’s so difficult to eliminate corruption? Anti-corruption has been main topic for years since the “Reform and Open”, but the result is far from satisfactory. What’s the cause? Let’s make a metaphor: Possibly speaking, we call ordinary corruption a thief, then who is the one to catch the thief? Actually, it’s the bigger thief who holds the responsibility to seize the smaller thief. When they both are thieves, how come the thieves get wiped out? Similarly, how can anti-corruption be realized? Never!
People should never keep the faith in a party without humane and rejecting human rights to respect them. The party is never great and correct to administrate a nation forever. If the China Communist Party do as they name itself as a administrative party, it can’t keep the political power without limitation. As a matter of truth, it’s no longer a simple political party. It’s a giant and powerful group holding the same benefits. Country is merely their brand and flag to make sure their survival. People can get a chance to develop only by joining them. That’s why corruptive people can finish premier accumulation in China. Because of the existence of the benefited group and the one-party dictatorship, all become possible.
Therefore I deeply feel that the grief problems of corruption in China will never change in spite of how systematical the legal principals are. The key problem here is the tyrant and autocratic power of CCP. If China is aimed to change current situation, it should accept the democratic system utilized by western countries and emphasize democratic supervision.
