Access to Reporters Without Borders site blocked within hours after move to new ISP

Reporters Without Borders today condemned the Chinese government＇s censorship of the Chinese-language version of its website, www.rsf-chinese.org, as a result of which Internet users in China are deprived of information about press freedom

On 25th May, the site was moved to a new Internet Service Provider and within a few hours - we estimate between five and eight hours - access had again been blocked within China. The Chinese authorities very quickly blocked access when the www.rsf-chinese.org site was first launched on 3 May.

The cyber-police clearly used detectors containing subversive and pornographic keyword filters to identify undesirable new sites. Regardless of the consequences for Chinese Internet users, any IP address linked to a website considered undesirable is blocked without any warning. Tens of thousands of Chinese web sites are currently inaccessible online as a result of such measures.

Reporters sans frontières déplore la censure de la version en chinois de son site Internet, www.rsf-chinese.org, qui prive les internautes des informations de l＇organisation sur la liberté de la presse.

Le 25 mai, le site a été transféré sur un nouveau fournisseur d＇accès. Après seulement quelques heures - entre 5 et 8 heures selon les estimations de l＇organisation - , le site a de nouveau été bloqué. Lancé le 3 mai dernier, www.rsf-chinese.org a été très rapidement bloqué par les autorités.

La cyberpolice utilise visiblement des détecteurs de nouveaux sites contenant des filtres par mots clefs subversifs ou pornographiques. Sans se soucier des conséquences pour les internautes chinois, toute l＇adresse IP liée à un site jugé indésirable est bloquée sans aucun préavis. Des dizaines de milliers de sites en chinois sont actuellement rendus inaccessibles par les autorités.
