A U.S. military helicopter has crashed near Baghdad, killing all 13 people aboard.

The military says the helicopter went down northeast of the Iraqi capital Saturday. The cause of the incident was not announced. Authorities have ordered an investigation.

Elsewhere in Iraq, insurgents killed at least 10 people including a senior Iraqi army official and a U.S. soldier.

Iraqi authorities said Saturday a bomb killed an Iraqi colonel in the northern city of Mosul. And violence across the country killed at least eight other Iraqis, including seven civilians in Baghdad.

The U.S. military said a roadside bomb in northern Baghdad killed one American soldier. It said the attack occurred as the soldier's unit was conducting a patrol to help stop the sectarian violence in the area.

In another development, U.S. military officials say coalition forces detained 25 terrorist suspects Saturday in a series of raids across the country.

On Friday, Iraqi and U.S. forces detained a top aide to radical cleric Moqtada al-Sadr. American officials say he leads an illegally armed group involved in the kidnapping, torture and murder of Iraqi civilians.

Sadr's office says the man arrested is its media director, Sheik Abdul Hadi al-Darraji.
