Chen,Hongshuang: The Reason China Government Severely Control Media
Why there is no freedom of speech in China? Freedom of speech benefits the whole society, but China government will have to bear the cost. Because the most sensitive topics is political speech, and word praising the government does not need protection anywhere, and what needs protection is word that government will never like to hear. China government will take the cost if instability and incoherence occurs in China society, so it is only the government who will decide if freedom of speech is allowed or not, even though freedom of speech is a long term benefit. Dictatorial rule is deceitful but satisfy the need of people, and the merit is its quick effectiveness, while its demerit is accumulated in days to come; democracy and freedom society is just the opposite, its demerit is quick to see while its merit is to render to the society in a long term to come.
In a dictatorial regime, people can hear and see positive news report everywhere, appearing a very nice society; while countries with freedom report the true stories to the public, including the dark side of the government in development. So it requires intellects, long term view and braveness to protect freedom of speech. In China’s constitution freedom of speech is written there black and white but it is not practiced, so we can say there is no freedom of speech, freedom of media and freedom of printing in China.
