Iran＇s parliament has asked the government to review its cooperation with the U.N. nuclear agency, after the imposition of sanctions on Iran for its nuclear program.

Lawmakers in the conservative-controlled parliament overwhelmingly passed the bill Wednesday.

The bill, which was given precedence over regular legislation, says the government is obliged to revise its cooperation level with the International Atomic Energy Agency.

The Guardian Council, a constitutional watchdog body controlled by hard-line clerics, quickly approved the bill.

Last week, the U.N. Security Council voted unanimously in favor of sanctions on Iran＇s trade in sensitive nuclear materials and missile systems.

World leaders praised the sanctions resolution, but top Iranian officials vowed to speed up the country＇s uranium enrichment activities.

The U.N. resolution is an effort to stop uranium enrichment work in Iran that could be used in nuclear bombs. Iran insists its atomic program is for peaceful purposes.

The United States pushed for the sanctions resolution, after Iran ignored an August 31 U.N. deadline to suspend uranium enrichment.
