Liang, Jianming: You Won’t Be a Dignified Person Unless You Have Democracy.
What is democracy? To the ordinary people who have lost jobs, opportunities, information, voices, equity and security under the autarchic oppression, democracy is exactly all these things which have been lost and are being lost, which are lives and livings. Democracy is as the real living necessity as the meal you eat, the clothes you wear and the air you breathe everyday. You won’t be a dignified person unless you have democracy. Without democracy, you can only be at the mercy of others, be treated as animal and slave. When under one party dictatorship, it is bitter and painful singing “Arise! Who are not willing to be slaves.” It is knowable that the democratic kindling won’t be put out in China unless 1.3 billions of Chinese people are caroling together “Kneel down! Who are willing to be slaves.”
The ordinary people have various attitudes towards autarchy and democracy. The development of China can’t avoid the most penetrating subject of whether autarchy or democracy. The huge righteous power of realizing democratic China is enough to overthrow China communist’s one party dictatorship without striking a blowing.
