A barrage of more than 100 rockets fired by Hezbollah militants has killed at least eight Israelis. At least three Israeli soldiers were also killed in heavy fighting in Lebanon. Israel military authorities say they plan to expand their proposed security zone inside Lebanon to 15 kilometers.

Most of the deaths from the Hezbollah rockets came in the cities of Acre and Maalot, which were struck by more than 100 rockets.

Israeli military authorities say they plan to expand their proposed security zone along the Lebanese border to about 15 kilometers inside Lebanon, which will require about 2,000 more ground troops.

Israeli Defense Forces chief of Staff Dan Halutz says the operation will continue as long as necessary.

"We are going to provide our government the flexibility to select its decision, either to stay or to withdraw," he said.

Israel's military released findings calling their air strike against the town of Qana on Sunday a "mistake." At least 28 people died in the attack. The advocacy group, Human Rights Watch says during its military campaign in Lebanon, Israel has failed to distinguish between civilians and combatants.
