                                          Democracy in Taiwan

The Chinese Communist Party authorities have been telling the scary stories that moving towards democracy will lead the country into anarchy and disorder and cause millions of refugees to leave for foreign countries. The propaganda machines frequently report some incidents happened in Taiwan to prove that democracy equals anarchy.
In fact in the late seventies when the reforms and openness were started in mainland China, the two sides of the Taiwan Strait have similar political systems which were based on one-party dictatorship. Since Jiang Jingguo lifted the bans on assembly and press Taiwan has been experienced swift progress in democratic reforms. It took only ten years for Taiwan to transform itself into a democratic society. There was no bloodshed in this period. The economic growth was not disrupted. A “peaceful revolution” was achieved. The process and achievements of the democratization of Taiwan are the best example for mainland China.
