Freedom, equality, human rights, the rule of law, dignity, and democracy are modern universal values—fundamental principles affirmed by the UN Charter and widely accepted by the international community.
While the problems China currently faces may appear on the surface to be economic, social, or governance issues, they are fundamentally rooted in a lack of universal values.
The absence of democracy means the Chinese government lacks a mandate from the people; officials are not accountable to the public, creating fertile ground for social conflict and popular grievance.
Without the rule of law—and with power highly concentrated yet lacking effective oversight—CCP officials at all levels act arbitrarily and high-handedly, easily leading to rampant corruption and catastrophic policy errors.
Furthermore, a lack of freedom—manifested in restrictions on the flow of ideas and information—prevents the formation of an open environment. It stifles free exchange and the accommodation of diverse viewpoints, thereby hindering technological innovation and social vitality.
Despite nearly fifty years of "Reform and Opening Up," while the CCP has achieved economic success, its science and technology sectors have relied solely on imitation, completely lacking indigenous innovation.
China needs to realize freedom, equality, human rights, the rule of law, dignity, and democracy.
