Wang ,Ting: It Is Difficult for a "Red Second Generation" Leader to Bring About a Democratic China

In the past, people harbored certain illusions about the "Red Second Generation" (the children of high-ranking CCP officials). They believed that because these individuals grew up within the red bureaucracy—witnessing firsthand the CCP＇s inhumanity, its practice of inverting right and wrong, and its internal infighting—they would see through the Party＇s evil nature and consequently desire reform to achieve freedom and democracy in China.
However, reality has proven such illusions to be completely unrealistic.
The current CCP leader is a quintessential member of this "Red Second Generation." He once remarked that the Communist Party of the Soviet Union seized power when it had 200,000 members and defeated Hitler when it had 2 million, yet it lost power—and ultimately disintegrated completely—when its membership had swelled to nearly 20 million.
He lamented that, amidst that upheaval, "not a single man" stood up to resist.
This statement most accurately reflects the inner thoughts of the current CCP leader.
The "Red Second Generation" fears losing the regime, losing power, and losing their own vast vested interests.
Once in power, they stubbornly cling to autocracy and the CCP＇s one-party dictatorship, while remaining hostile toward Western democracies and opposed to universal values.
It is evident that such a leader from the "Red Second Generation" will absolutely not implement democratic politics; under their rule, there is little hope for political reform in China.
