After World War II, world political history shows that the occurrence of a country＇s democratic transition is related to the country＇s level of socioeconomic development.
Democratic transitions rarely occur in low-income countries. Democratic transitions occur most frequently in middle-income countries. However, most high-income countries have completed democratic transitions and become democracies.
Therefore, this phenomenon occurs mainly because in low-income countries, people mainly pursue basic food and clothing. They do not have enough understanding of human rights and democracy, and their demands are not very urgent.
In middle-income countries, the problem of people＇s food and clothing has been solved, and there are higher requirements, such as freedom of speech, democratic politics, etc. At this time, mass movements are prone to emerge to promote democratic transformation.
There is no precedent in history for a middle-income autocratic country to become a high-income autocratic country without democratic transition.
Now, mainland China has become a middle-income country, and democratic transition is inevitable. It is also very difficult for the Chinese Communist Party authorities to become a wealthy and civilized country while maintaining autocracy.
Obviously, social and economic development can promote social democratic transformation. Of course, a system needs to be established to ensure the realization of democracy.
