It is very interesting for people in China to talk about democracy. I would like to share a few paragraphs with you.
Democracy is not that simple, but it is not the terrifying monster in legend either.
The quality of the citizens is too low to be established. In the Yan'an era, farmers could vote with soybeans. Never underestimate the wisdom of grassroots people: regional differences are too large to be established. Democracy is an important means for the central and local governments to achieve a balanced and stable relationship: democracy is certainly not the same as street politics. , and taking to the streets to declare one's views does not mean chaos. In some countries, parliaments fought violently. It is for people to see, which is better than operating in the dark; as for one person, one vote, it is a simplified understanding of democracy. Democracy does not mean one person, one vote. For example, in the United States, it is state rights (Senate) and civil rights (House of Representatives) combination.
Democracy will always produce vote buying, there is no doubt about it.
However, compared with hereditary leadership, appointments from superiors, and leaders determined by the barrel of a gun, democracy is more just.
Even if a fool is elected through bribery, he is willing to do good things for the voters in order to be re-elected.
Democracy requires some supporting conditions, such as judicial independence, freedom of speech, independent education, private property, etc. I discussed this in my book "The Gap".
Mr. Wu Jiaxiang criticized that democracy, like swimming, is a learning process, rather than throwing people into the water and letting them choke. Some conditions can only be cultivated in the democratic process.
My friend Zhang Wen has a book called "Democracy is not a joke", which coincides with Mr. Wu Jiaxiang's meaning.
Since democracy is a way of life, we might as well practice and strive for it in every detail.
Because democracy in any country must be fought for, not waited for.
The word democracy has been talked about a lot, but the true meaning of democracy has not been mentioned.
