The more authoritarian a country is, the more it has to advertise itself as a democratic system. Autocratic countries are all fake republics, and they never hold elections in power.
For example, the countries of the former Soviet Union communist bloc are all republics, and the only remaining one-party autocratic countries such as North Korea, Vietnam, Cuba, etc., also claim to be the People's Republic. In fact, they are just like the CCP, they are all dictatorships under the banner of the republic.
After the CCP seized power, the so-called People's Republic was established. People thought that the Chinese mainland would implement a democratic republic system, with power belonging to all the people and the government elected by universal suffrage.
But the facts later proved that the political power of the CCP's republic was controlled by the CCP, no real elections were ever held, and the people were completely excluded from state management.
A republic is different from a monarchy. The biggest difference is that there is no dictatorial emperor or king, but in an autocratic country, the leader's power is highly concentrated, even more than the feudal monarchs of all dynasties.
For example: Mao Zedong, the former chairman of the Communist Party of China, once said that we are a hundred times more than Qin Shihuang.
Despotism is the concentration of various powers, such as the contemporary red emperor. If a country does not hold elections, there can be no republic, let alone democracy.
