At 11am, on June 26, 2012, nearly 200 China Democracy Party members came to the Chinese Consulate General in New York to hold a rally. The themes were “Strong Protest against the Chinese Communist government persecutes China Democrat Li, Wangyyang to death!”, “Demand the Chinese Communist government release all the detained Democrats immediately.” The Chairman of China Democracy party and Proprietor of China Democracy Journal Mr. Wang, Jun attended the rally and made a speech. Several China Democracy Party members also made speeches.
Li, Wangyang was born in 1950, in Shaoyang city, Hunan Province, unmarried. He worked in a glass factory, and his character is very tough. Li, Wangyang is a member of China Democracy Party, the first activist of China independent trade union, an old leader of China labor movement. As early as 1983, Li, Wangyang organized “Shaoyang City Workers Mutual Aid Association”. He participated in the 1989 democracy movement, and established Workers Autonomy Federation in Shaoyang city, Hunan Province, serving as a president. After the Tiananmen Square Massacre, Li, Wangyang was heavily sentenced to 13 years in prison following the crime as “subverting state power”. He was put in Hunan Shaoyang Longxi prison. Longxi prison was one of the most brutal prisons. Facing the cruel persecution in prision, Li, Wangyang went on a hunger strike. The prison guarder used pliers to open Li, Wangyang’s mouth, and put the food inside, his two teeth were gone because of this. The prison totally destroyed Li, Wangyang’s body. He suffered from hyperthyroidism, his eyes began to protrude, his eye vision started to decline, and he gradually lost the ability to walk. When Li, Wangyang was released, he could not walk without people’s help.
After his was released from prison, Li, Wangyang joined China Democracy Party, and he was arrested and put in prison again. On May 5, 2011, Li, Wangyang walked out the prison alive again. At that present, Li, Wangyang had been tortured to be paralyzed by the Chinese Communist government, becoming blind. He was imprisoned for 21 years, Li, Wangyang, who was called as an iron man, died in the hospital on June 6, 2012, which led to the whole society’s concern and doubt.
VOA reported: Li, Wangyang’s brother-in-law Zhao, Baozhusaid said, around 6am on June 6, hospital called that Li, Wangyang was dead, and looked like suicide. He went to the hospital room, seeing Li, Wangyang hanging in the window. However, Li, Wangyang’s friend, Li, Zanmin said that Li, Wangyang’s body was erected in the window; a ribbon was on his neck.
Li, Wangyang’s friend and old classmate, Zhu, Chengzhi is a Hunan Democrat. He confirmed that after the case, Li, Dongyang’s relatives and friends asked the police to take pictures of the remains, but got turned down by them. What was more, around 10am, police also took away the remains, and dozens of friends failed to stop.
Zhu, Chengzhi told VOA, “I cannot believe this. Li, Wangyang is a tough man. He can endure any pain, and would never end his life in this way.”

The Chairman of China Democracy Party and Proprietor of China Democracy Journal Mr. Wang, Jun was very sad at Li, Wangyang’s death. He said, last early May, China Democrat Mr. Qin, Yongmin in Wuhan contacted him, and told him Li, Wangyang’s situation. He said that after Li, wangyang came out the prison, he would need money for medical Spending. Besides, he would have a touch life situation, and desperately in need of help.
Under Chairman Mr. Wang, Jun’s arrangement, the China Democracy Party called on a humanitarian donation to Mr, Li, Wangyang at the first time. And China Democracy Party raised $1050 in a week, and on May 14, 2011, this money was mailed to Mr. Li, wangyang through Western Union. On August 10, 2011, Li, Wangyang’s sister Li, Wangling gave China Democracy Party a thanks letter entitled “receiving Mr. Wang, Jun’s donation” through Wuhan China Democrat Mr. Qin, Yongmin. Time had just passed one year, Li, Wangyang was dead. We lost a great Democrat again, we lost a pro-democracy hero.
Chairman Mr. Wangjun expressed his view, “China Democrat Mr. Li, Wangyang is a real man; he is arrested and put in prison by Chinese Communist government. The total duration of his imprison time has already passed 21 years. And he got all kinds of brutal persecution and torture there. But he was still alive. After he was released from the prison, though his health condition was very bad, but his will became stronger. And he still had a heart for democracy. However, in the morning of June 6, 2012, Mr. Li, Wangyang died in a governmental hospital in Shaoyang city, Hunan province. From the picture, he hanged himself. The Chinese government said he died from suicide. But Mr. Li, Wangyang does not have any motive to commit suicide, and the reason of his suicide becomes strange, the process of his suicide is very doubtful. Facing relatives’ strong doubts and fearless protest, facing international society’s doubt and protest, the Chinese government cannot justify itself, and change it into the saying that Mr. Li, Wangyang died accidental. This conclusion also gets doubts and protests from all parties.”
There were many doubts on the conclusion and interpretation Chinese Communist government made of Mr. Li, wangyang’s death reason and death process. The China Democracy Party urged the Chinese government to investigate the truth of Mr. Li, Wangyang’s death. If the result of investigation is exactly the same as the public doubt, not suicide, not died accidently, but was killed by others; then we would ask to punish the murder harshly, give justice to Mr. Li, Wangyang, and also give a saying to his relatives, friends and all the people who care about him.
