Bao,Shuqun: CCP should stop persecution of religious personnel

Freedom of religion is one of basic human rights. The 18th article of Universal Declaration of Human Rights writes: everyone has rights of ideas, conscience, and religion; the rights include freedom of converting religion or belief, freedom of expressing religious belief individually or collectively, openly or in secret through religious doctrine, practice, sunday worship, and precepts. Anyone has freedom of religion and it’s a common sense for people worldwide, and it’s a recognized basic human rights and universal value.
However under the rule of CCP, Chinese people couldn’t enjoy real religious freedom. Though Chinese constitution admitted citizens enjoy freedom of religion, in fact CCP strictly control religious groups, and set up so-called “Patriotic religious institutes” to supervise religious activities in order to maintain its governance. For example, Chinese religious activities must be supervised by patriotic religious associates approved by CCP. CCP doesn’t allow activities to convert religion on unregistered places, and doesn’t allow foreigners openly engage in such activities. When new religious groups expand and don’t conform to CCP, CCP will use violent means to persecute and oppress disciples. As is known to all, since 12 years ago till now, CCP have targeted Falun Gong groups and persecute them politically, many Falun Gong members are illegally arrested over long period of time and suffered both mentally and physically and their legal rights are deprived.
We hereby strongly demand CCP to stop religious persecution, grant citizens freedom of religion. This call is based on such facts, freedom of religion not only is the basic factor for a stable, peaceful and prosperous society, but also divine guarantee of a true democratic and free nation. Freedom of religion is the core of democracy. The core of freedom of religion is people have freedom of doing things by conscience, which is the origin of equality and justice in democratic and free societies. We also want to warn CCP, that a constitution without practical value can eliminate historically lineage of Chinese conscience and justice, and result in subjugation of a nation. We pray for God to help us end the one-party dictatorship, establish a democratic and free China. At the same time, we have to realize that we should be determined to fight for democracy and fulfill god’s will.
