Huang,Jianbing: Memorizing the 62th Anniversary of “Universal Declaration of Human Rights”

“Universal Declaration of Human Rights” was officially passed on Dec.10, 1948, and became new international standard for human rights and had huge impact worldwide. Many countries have listed it in their constitution, and that day is set as International human rights day for celebration.
At the time of the 62th anniversary of “Universal Declaration of Human Rights”, people are happy to see the claimed basic human rights, dignity, and basic freedom have been accepted and implemented by more countries. Human rights, freedom, equality, love and dignity for humanity as basic pursuit of common people, have become value standard to weigh the advance of a country, and improvement of people’s living standard.
“Universal Declaration of Human Rights” is based on freedom that is free from fear and free from privation. Respecting people’s rights and political interests can prevent freedom from fear; respecting rights of economy, society, and culture can prevent freedom from privation. “Universal Declaration of Human Rights” expresses that people worldwide reached a common sense that all people have unalienable, inviolable rights, and regulated responsibilities for members.
China is a member country in U.N. and has to carry out responsibilities of member states. Every Chinese people should be protected by “Universal Declaration of Human Rights” and enjoy rights regulated by “Universal Declaration of Human Rights”. Any denial of human rights and freedom are tragedies of individuals and plant seeds for violence and conflicts, and provide conditions for social conflicts. As regulated by “Universal Declaration of Human rights”, respecting human rights and dignity are basis for freedom, justice, and peace.
History has proven that the best channel to realize basic human rights, dignity, and freedom is to implement democracy.
Modern democratic system started from “Declaration of Independence”, and after two hundred years of democratic trend, the notion has taken roots in Europe, Africa, Latin America, Former Soviet Union and Southeast Asia, more and more countries are entering democracy. This is enough to verify: democratic politics is the basis to guarantee basic rights and freedom. Under the democratic system, common people can enjoy more freedom, equality, humanity, and dignity, democratic politics can be universal values and became benchmark for trend and political civilization.
Therefore, to abolish autocracy and carry out democratic system in China not only the trend of popular sentiment, and general trend, at the same time, it’s also a solemn promise to “Universal Declaration of Human Rights”, which assures safety of basic rights, human dignity, and basic freedom.
