A Pakistani policeman and bystanders remove an injured suicide car bomb blast victim after an attack on a police building in Peshawar, 16 Oct 2009
Pakistani police say a suicide car bomb exploded Friday outside a police investigation bureau in the northwestern city of Peshawar, killing at least 11 people.

Television footage showed smoldering rubble and a destroyed car. A nearby mosque also sustained damage. Rescue teams and security forces swarmed at the site.

Police said the attacker drove an explosives-filled vehicle toward the police station when it blew up.

No one has claimed responsibility for the attack, the latest in a string of attacks in the past two weeks that have killed more than 150 people.

On Thursday, a wave of attacks on law-enforcement agencies in Lahore and in the troubled northwest killed least 39 people.

Teams of gunmen in Lahore stormed the regional office of the Federal Investigation Agency, or FIA, and two police training centers and killed at least 26 people.

Also Thursday, a suicide car bomber blew up at a police station in the northwestern city of Kohat, killing 11. In Peshawar, a bomb hit a residential neighborhood populated by government workers. One child was reported killed.

Pakistani Interior Minister Rehman Malik said the recent violence show the militants want to bring the frontline from the violent northwest to Punjab province. He called the escalation of violence a "guerrilla war."

Taliban leaders have pledged to hit government targets ahead of an expected army offensive in South Waziristan. Officials say most terrorist attacks in Pakistan are planned there.
