Rally for Donation to Assist Dying Dissident Author Hong Li
——Strongly protest against the Chinese government for persecuting on dissident writer Hong Li.
At 11 o’clock June 29, 2010, about 200 members of the Chinese Democracy Party and China Democracy Party World Union gathered in front of the Chinese Consulate in New York to strongly protest against the Chinese government for persecution on the dissident writer Hong Li and donated money to assist him. Mr. Jun Wang, The Chairman of the Chinese Democracy Party and China Democracy Party World Union as well as proprietor of China Democracy Journal, participated in the rally, made a speech and advocated that members of the China Democracy party should donate money to the dying Mr. Hong Li. Ms. Lifang Ge, a representative from the Chinese League of Victims, participated in the rally and made a speech.
The famous dissident writer Jianhong Zhang, with a pen name as Hong Li, was born in Jin county of Zhejiang province in 1958.He is a poet, play writer and free-lance writer. He was arrested and put into the jail after June 1989. He started to be a free-lance writer in 1989.In 2004,he became a writer under contract with Zhejiang Literature Institute. He finished the long poem “Chapters of Sadness” and published the Red Clothes Workshop” etc.. In the same year, he joined and established a humanitarian website, “Aegean Sea”, as the chief editor. In March 2007, he was sentenced to the jail for 6 years for trying to instigate and subvert the government. Before he was put into the jail, he was healthy, decent, smart and talked elegantly. In the prison, he was tortured inhumanely and diagnosed to have serious neuron illness which resulted in the shriveling of muscle on his arms. His wife and family had asked the jail for many times to let him out temporarily to get effective medical treatment in time. However, the Chinese government refused it even though the situation was realized. The prime time to treat the illness was missed. Therefore, the disease spread all over his body. It was until he was moribund that his family was informed by the authority. His wife and family sent him to the No.2 People’s Hospital in Ningbo, Zhejiang for treatment.

Although the moribund Hong Li was allowed to be out of the jail to seek medical treatment and admitted into the No. 2 People’s Hospital in Zhejiang, his family had to transfer him to the cheap private hospital because they could not afford the extremely high medical expenses. At present, his disease is relatively controlled. However, he is facing the danger of the exhaustion of internal organs at any time because the prime time of treatment was missed.
The chairman of the China Democracy Party and the China Democracy Party World Union as well as the proprietor of the China Democracy Journal heard the news regarding the dying dissident writer Hong Li in the USA and was worried. Even though he was very busy, still he talked to Mr. Yufu Zhu, a member of the China Democracy Party in Hangzhou, Zhejiang, for many times and asked him to visit and comfort Mr. Hong Li to gather detailed information on his illness. Chairman Wang promised and advocated that members of the China Democracy Party to donate money to the dying Mr. Hong Li for his urgent expenses on medical treatment. He also asked the Chinese government to stop prosecuting on the dissident writer Hong, Li and provides medical treatment to Mr. Hong Li from the humanitarian aspect.

Chairman Jun Wang Pointed out that the Chinese government always advocates that the country should be ruled according to law. The government officials always speak publicly that ruling the country according to law focuses on controlling the authority and officials instead of the average civilians according to law. However, the fact is different. Ruling the country according to law actually makes average people governed. The Chinese government put the average people, dissident writer Hong, Li, into jail in the crime name of trying to instigate and subvert the government, which proves this problem. The Chinese government and its officials can do anything beyond the laws. All the laws and stipulations are only method for controlling and managing the average people. According to the cases in which average civilians were hurt and disabled as well as those innocent civilians who were persecuted to death, the government does not rule the country according to law but according to people with power typically. Then Chairman Jun Wang advocated that members of the China Democracy Party should donate money to moribund Mr. Hong Li. All the members who participated in the rally donated money. More than 700 USD was received. Chairman Jun Wang donated 800 USD. The total amount received was 1500 USD, which as transmitted in some special way.
