Rally of “Support Google’s Claim of Internet Freedom”
——Strongly Protest CCP Authority’s Control over Speech Freedom
At 11am on March 30, 2010, more than 100 China Democracy Party members went to the front of Chinese Consulate General in New York and held a protest rally in the heavy storm: Support Google’s Claim of Internet Freedom! Strongly Protest CCP Authority’s Control over Speech Freedom! Though we encountered abnormal severe weather, none of the China Democracy Party members retreated. The umbrellas in hands of our party members are blew broken in the fierce wind, the rains stroke onto our faces and bodies. Our clothes were completely wet and the shoes were also full of water. All the CDP members showed their courage and endurance. Chairman of China Democracy Party and China Democracy Party World Union, publisher of “China Democracy Journal”, Mr.Jun Wang come to today’s rally as well to be a good example to CDP members and made a speech in the rally.
On January 12, 2010, Google’s chief legal officer Drunmond published a claim in his blog saying that Google has suffered internet attacks and will withdraw from China. This claim has caused great disturbance. Google points out that they find out basic facilities of Google are attacked by hackers from inside China. The targets of their stacks are mostly the Google gmail accounts of many Chine Democrats. Though Google thinks the attacks have not succeed, they find two email accounts be infringed already.
On March 22, 2010, Google officially announces that it will cease censorship on information from Google.cn and transfer it to HongKong. Users who want to reach Google.cn will be led to Google.com.hk, which hasn’t been censored. As Google says, Google.com.hk website will utilize simplified Chinese to give convenience to mainland China users. Meanwhile, Google hopes Chinese government can respect the decision of Google. The White House and US government express their opinion: Google’s decision is totally based on the interests of the whole company.

Chairman of China Democracy Party and China Democracy Party World Union, publisher of ‘China Democracy Journal”, Mr.Jun Wang made a speech in the rally. He pointed out that CCP has strengthened control over internet and restrict press and speech freedom on internet. Chinese internet users are limited from accessing much information on the internet. Dissents and rights defenders are blocked from promoting ideas of democracy and freedom on the internet. CCP authority not only supervises the use of internet, but also trains thousands of “Internet Police” to do overall monitor of the internet. Chinese people are restricted in obtaining information from internet because of CCP’s censorship and infiltration. Many internet users in China find more and more websites not able to show up, which shows CCP’s infiltration net is tightening on the so-called “Sensitive Words”. CCP fears the uncontrolled information and use unclearly identified “Harmful Information” as reason to block dissent voices on internet. Besides, internet users inside China are also forbidden from visiting foreign websites. Related work unites and individuals are censored, supervised and dealt with. Internet users who violate CCP’s rules will be arrested and even sentenced by the government.
Jun Wang said, Google has to make the difficult decision to fulfill its promise to stop censorship and adhere to claim of internet freedom. Google gives up China market and shuts up Google.cn as a result. Though Google has paid the price to guard internet freedom, it has contributed to the healthy development of international internet.
A free and open internet has great influence on promoting world’s civilization and progress. China Democracy Party and China Democracy Party World Union hereby appeal international community to take effective initiatives and place pressure on CCP to stop restrictions and censorship on internet, so internet can healthily develop in China.
Several China Democracy Party and China Democracy Party World Union made speeches in the rally to support Google’s claim of internet freedom. We strongly protest CCP authority’s censorship on internet! Strongly protest CCP authority’s control over speech freedom!
